That wouldn’t tell me much. It sure wouldn’t tell me whether or not you read my letter. But I’ve got an idea. This will let me know.

Tell me something you hate.

In return, I’ll tell you something I hate.

Here goes.

I hate people my age. Not just some of them. All of them. That includes you. I especially hate girls my age. They’re stupid and, I’m convinced, evil too. I think they study people—boys and each other—until they figure out everything that’s wrong with you. Then they try to hurt you. With me, they don’t even have to look that hard. They don’t have to look at all. I stutter. Go ahead, laugh. Everyone else does. You know what they say, though, about “he who laughs last”? Well, that’s a load of crap. It’s he who laughs first and keeps laughing that comes out on top. After a while, the person getting laughed at just gives up.

So, holograph, if you care about my grade in English, drop me a line.
